California’s First Ever Public Fruit Park in the County of Los Angeles
The Los Angeles-based artist collective, Fallen Fruit, members Matias Viegener, David Burns, and Austin Young are helping to establish the first-ever publicly funded community orchard in California, specifically in Los Angeles County.
Planting 27 trees, chosen for the particular climate, in Del Aire Park just west of Interstate 405. There was an inclination by Fallen Fruit to plant "things you don't typically buy", like pomegranates, various hybrid stone fruit, figs, and persimmons.
The group plans to provide fruit pickers and maps of the trees, but beyond that the group says the fate of the orchard belongs to the community.
